ANNOUNCEMENTS and PRESS RELEASES

PUBLIC WATER SYSTEM TOTAL COLIFORM MONITORING

Due to increased costs associated with providing Total Coliform analytical services, EPD is unable to continue to provide this service for public water systems at no charge. In order to be able to continue to offer this service, a new voluntary Drinking Water Total Coliform Monitoring Contract for Service program is being implemented for public water systems serving less than 12,901 people. This new program covers analytical services associated with the Total Coliform Rule (TCR) based on the number of routine samples a public water system is required to collect each month / quarter.

to serve small systems in their commitment to provide safe drinking water and wastewater services to the citizens and visitors of georgiaThe Georgia Rural Water Association (GRWA) is a non-profit organization representing rural systems throughout the State of Georgia in regard to drinking water and wastewater needs. The association is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of distinguished members of the water and wastewater industries. Active Members consist of public and non-public water and wastewater systems. Corporate and Associate Member support and participation is the foundation of GRWA's Partnership Program for rural systems.

Of the nearly 6,000 systems in the state, 90% are small rural systems serving less than 10,000 people. Often, the operating budgets of these systems limit their ability to address the many essential aspects of water and wastewater management. Examples of these are: compliance with state and federal regulations, fiscal management, system operation and maintenance, initial and continuing training needs, and liability issues. GRWA is available to assist member systems in many areas.
