Certificate in Buried Asset Management
Buried Asset Management Institute-International, Inc. (BAMI-I) is a non-profit organization originally established in the Department of Watershed Management (DWM) of the City of Atlanta. It was established under the leadership of the former DWM Commissioner Jack Ravan and through the inspiration of Mayor Shirley Franklin to assist with accomplishing her vision of the water program in Atlanta moving to a world-class operation.
In 2006, BAMI-I through a grant from EPA is proud to announce a new on-line/home study educational program process to obtain a Certificate of Training in Buried Asset Management of underground asset infrastructure. This program is made possible through collaboration between BAMI, Georgia Rural Water Association, and the Construction Engineering Management Technology program of the Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis (IUPUI).
This is a pioneering program in the United States created by BAMI that is establishing a new path for stakeholders in the water and wastewater industry interested in an excellent way to manage their infrastructural assets.
BAMI was established through an EPA Cooperative Agreement with objectives and deliverables including a demonstration of the virtual center of excellence and an asset management certification program.
The program is for all stakeholders, from those with limited or no knowledge at all to professionals in the water and wastewater industry including, but not limited to, owners, workers, students, decision makers, administrative personnel, engineers, managers, consultants and educators.
The objective of the program is to equip the participant with detailed information and real case studies to develop the necessary abilities to start, improve or support an asset management program in the water and wastewater industry.
At the end of the three-phase certification program the participant should demonstrate a complete understanding of water and wastewater asset management.
- Phase I: Mastery of fundamental concepts, studying for the certification exam, and taking the online exam. This phase has been developed and is being administered by Indiana University – Purdue University in Indianapolis (IUPUI) through an online course and online exam residing on their online “Oncourse” Course Management Platform. The online course offers the participant all the resources to study and prepare for the exam together with a Manual to be supplied to the participant upon registering. Registering is handled through Georgia Rural Water Association.
- Phase II: Practical. Use of a virtual CEMAM (Center of Excellence for Municipal Asset Management).
- Phase III: Application to the industry
Upon completion of the three phase program, the participant will receive a Certificate of Training in Asset Management from BAMI-I and GRWA with IUPUI and BMI (Benjamin Media, Inc.) as supporting organizations.
Register and pay online here. Once the application and course fee of $295.00 has been submitted to GRWA, BAMI-I will be responsible for administering the course. BMI will send the course materials to you and IUPUI will enroll you in the course management program.
